New England Society Annual Dinner Dance    |    New York, NY   |   November 14 2008

The New England Society held their 203rd annual dinner dance at the St. Regis. Former New York Governor George Pataki was honored.

The New England Society in the City of New York, one of the oldest societies in the country, was organized on May 6, 1805 to commemorate the landing of the Pilgrim Fathers on Plymouth Rock.

The objectives have remained strong through the years. During the 19th century the charitable focus of the Society centered on payments and annuities to needy widows and children of New England families in

New York; necessities of life - such as kindling wood - distributed to the poor from New England; aid to distressed families of imprisoned debtors; grants for special projects created by inventive New England minds.

Proceeds from the event will help to fund the Society’s Scholarship Program which was established in 1953. It awards scholarships to bright and deserving students from the New York City area attending New England educational institutions.
