A sold-out crowd celebrated Moroccan-style as hundreds of revelers gathered at the “Casablanca” Gala for Greenwich Hospital to support the Cancer Institute. The black-tie event held at the Greenwich Country Club drew more than 520 guests, with many donning festive attire in honor of the Moroccan theme.

Chairing the event were Greenwich residents Aundrea Amine, Sabrina Forysthe and Anne Juge, who thanked the Gala Committee and Gala guests for their support. Gretchen Carlson, co-anchor of the Fox News Channel show “Fox & Friends” who resides in Greenwich, was the master of ceremonies. Dickerman Hollister, Jr., MD, chief of hematology and oncology at Greenwich Hospital, received the 2011 President’s Award for his 30 years of dedicated service.

Belly dancers performed as guests entered a Bedouin tent artfully created by Renny & Reed with brilliant red fabric accented with giant golden hoops dangling from the ceiling. Tall metal vases with giant palm fronds served as centerpieces atop tables adorned with gold-etched glass votives and colorful linens. Intimate seating areas with festive poofs and day beds added to the Moroccan décor.

Among the highlights was a cameo performance by Broadway singer and Greenwich resident Meg Tolin Piper who asked the pianist to “Play it again, Sam” as she delighted the audience by singing “As Time Goes By” from the classic “Casablanca” movie.
