On Thursday, November 10, Connecticut Farmland Trust was feted at the Bush-Holley House Barn at the Greenwich Historical Society, co-hosted by Dana McAvity, Susan Lockwood, Darrell Lorentzen, Patty Miller, and Gillian Steel.

Representing Connecticut's only statewide land conservation group, Executive Director Jim Gooch addressed his brief remarks to an engaged gathering of over 50 guests. He noted the precarious state of Connecticut's historically robust agricultural heritage, notwithstanding the recent resurgence of locally-sourced cuisine. Underscoring his point, the assembly was treated by Watson's Catering to a special (and delectable) menu of hors d'oeuvres sourced from Connecticut farms. Guests lingered over conversation and wine from Horseneck Liquors amid gorgeous seasonal arrangements contributed by Flowers By George. As a truly delightful evening drew to a close, departing guests were treated to small jars of raw honey, from Greenwich's own Bee Love Apiaries.

For many guests, it was a first introduction to Connecticut Farmland Trust (CFT). CFT is a private 501(c)(3) non-profit, and the only statewide conservation organization dedicated solely to permanently protecting Connecticut's Farmland. Since 2002 CFT has protected nearly 2,100 acres of farmland on 26 farms around the state, has assisted partners in the preservation of nearly 800 additional acres, and has served as a leading resource on conserving Connecticut's working farmland.
