Convent of the Sacred Heart and the Vassar College Haiti Project hosted a sale of Haitian paintings and crafts at Sacred Heart.

All the funds raised will be used to support the rebuilding of Haiti.  Two years ago, a huge earthquake hit Haiti. The initial shock is over and now the crucial work of rebuilding is underway.  Who better to support the builders than the next generation?  CSH and Vassar students joined together to raise funds for the rebuilding of Haiti through a sale of Haitian paintings and crafts.

Lori Wilson, director of campus ministry and community service in the Upper School, spent 12 days on the Sacred Heart International Service Trip to Cazale, Haiti in summer 2010.  The team included Sacred Heart educators, nuns and college students, among them CSH's Middle School head, Dave Olson, a member of the committee that helped the Haiti art sale.  In addition to Mr. Olson and Mrs. Wilson, the planning committee included Lucy Adams '12, Kathleen Failla, Elizabeth Fernandez, Margot Hastings and Paula Westcott.  CSH students also volunteered their time for the fundraiser to rebuild Haiti.

All the funds raised from the sale will go towards building the Vassar Haiti Project health clinic and to the Society of the Sacred Heart's mission in Haiti.  Purchases also support artists and by supplying new canvases and paints enable artists to paint again, bringing hope and funds to devastated communities.

The Vassar Haiti Project is a collaborative 100% volunteer effort that has for 10 years engaged hundreds of students and community members in the support of artists in Haiti, and the education, health, and sustainable development of a remote Haitian village called Chermaitre.
