The Stamford Family YMCA hosted “Fine Food for a Cause,” a fundraising event featuring local chefs and honored well-known restaurateur Joseph Bastianich and 2011 Miss America Teresa Scanlan. The event, which is part of the Y’s effort to raise awareness and funds to fight the local childhood obesity epidemic, took place at 203 Studios in Stamford and was emceed by Scott Wapner of CNBC’s “Fast Money Halftime Report.” Food lovers were treated to a feast of signature small plates from a dozen or more homegrown chefs, including those from:  Barcelona Restaurant & Wine Bar, Columbus Park Trattoria, Da Pietro’s Restaurant, David’s Soundview Catering, Forte Gelato, Match, Morton’s The Steakhouse, Napa & Co, Tappo, Tarry Lodge, Taste by karla sorrentino, Strada 18, Sushi Village and Sweet Lisa’s Exquisite Cakes.  Proceeds from the event will help fund a multi-purpose teaching kitchen, which will be used to deliver cooking skills and nutritional education to underserved local kids and families.

The Stamford Family YMCA is a 146-year-old charity committed to serving the local community through programs focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Y works to identify social and health issues, such as childhood obesity, and provides solutions through results-oriented programming such as the KIDS’ FANS program delivered in partnership with Stamford Hospital. The Stamford Family YMCA strives to not turn people away for inability to pay and operates thanks to the generosity of members, donors and corporate partners.  For more information, please visit:  http://www.stamfordymca.org/.
