Private Journeys
with Diane Terry

After two decades of globetrotting, Diane Terry is pleased to introduce Private Journeys with Diane Terry, LLC. Her deep passion for exploring the world, its strange and beautiful environs and the fascinating people who inhabit it has morphed her into a pied piper of sorts “following her bliss” by creating unique Private Journeys for groups of adventurous women who thrive on escape and the thrill of off-the-beaten path exploration. She looks for the most exotic and remote locations. Diane enjoys the complicated and challenging logistics. She loves the details. It gives her immense pleasure and intellectual satisfaction to design and lead travel experiences that are authentic, well organized and altruistically impactful. She loves what she does and is excited about the shared Private Journeys ahead.

All Private Journeys will include active adventure, cultural immersion and remote out-of-the way exploration. These are unusual trips, Handcrafted and carefully designed to deliver a non-touristic travel experience. The idea is to experience a culture, a landscape or people without the invasiveness of sharing it with other tourists. Balancing the wild with the worldly or pampering with a bit of roughness, is something Diane is both challenged and excited by and willing to deliver. She offers to create itineraries that balance “the sweet and sour” so that travel will “rocks the senses”.

For so long, women whom Diane has led on various expeditions through Unleashed Adventures, the company she co-founded in 1998, have requested that she offer these fantastic opportunities to their families and with great excitement she is doing just that. Each year Private Journeys will offer a scheduled Family Journey. Also available are Custom Journeys to any of Private Journeys‘ destinations. Individualized departure dates are offered for groups of twelve or more friends or family members. To round out the trio of new offerings, Private Journeys will on occasion offer Exploratory Journeys for intrepid clients interested in more adventurous sojourns.

Are Private Journeys for women only?
Private Journeys specializes in unique active women’s explorations to the most remote corners of the world. A number of scheduled women’s journeys are offered annually, with group sizes of 12 to 16 participants. Family Journeys will also be scheduled periodically.

By request, Private Journeys will organize Custom Journeys for small groups interested in enjoying any of the itineraries. These trips require a minimum of 12 participants with advanced reservations. They are a great way for families or groups of friends to travel together, whether it is to celebrate a milestone or just enjoy a reunion.

Will I be comfortable?
Private Journeys believes it is not where you travel but how you travel. Comfort is key. Being spoiled isn’t bad either! Accommodations vary between stays at “five-star” luxury lodges or hotels (occupied solely by the group) to more remote visits to unspoiled hideaways, which may include an overnight in a village home or even an old-growth forest tree house. Some of itineraries may include tent accommodations, but rest assured, camping is always in style and for the purpose of getting off-the-tourist path—to places where traditional accommodations either don’t exist or would offer less comfort. No matter how remote the destination, the good life comes along. Amenities usually include a masseuse, dining tents, delicious food, hot showers, wine, chocolate and a stable of guides to tend to all the nitty gritty!

How physically fit do I have to be?
Private Journeys offers a variety of trips that are appropriate for all fitness levels. In general, all Private Journeys are carefully designed itineraries suitable for anyone in good health, with a sense of humor and a desire to explore the world. Private Journeys are also planned so that should someone not care to participate in a scheduled activity (or be unable to for any reason), there is usually the possibility of opting out of that particular activity.

What about safety?
Private Journeys coordinates exciting active international explorations that do not include taking high risks. Private Journeys partners with only the most skilled guides and uses only top-of-the-line equipment in the field. Some of our itineraries do include activities that by their very nature harbor some amount of inevitable risk, (i.e., scuba diving, white water rafting, high altitude hiking), however, these activities are usually optional.

What’s included in the price?
Private Journeys are priced based on double occupancy and include all accommodations, activities, ground transportation and meals within the visited country. Air transportation and taxes, alcoholic beverages, spa treatments, gratuities and costs associated with pre- or post-tour extensions (assistance is offered) are not included, except where otherwise stated.
