Colorful Trends in Wedding Invitations
By Bonnie Shyer

Custom, custom and more custom is the biggest trend in today’s wedding invitation market. Whether it is a first marriage or the second time around; whether the ceremony is taking place in your hometown or at an exotic destination and whether you have a seemingly unlimited budget or you are putting the affair together on a shoestring. Brides and grooms are looking to set themselves apart from the crowd.

Color is one of the many ways to customize a wedding invitation. Even the most traditional, engraved invitations are often showing up with ink colors that aren’t a shade of black. Two of this season’s favorite colors are shades of blue and green.
Layering and pocket folds are another great way to personalize your invitation and add color. The possible combinations are limited only by your imagination. Often an invitation will combine classic elements such as fonts, wording and layout together with a modern twist which results in a truly unique product.

Letterpress, a printing method which employs vintage presses and thick, 100% cotton paper has made a big comeback. The tactile appeal of letterpress is greater than ever. When combined with either vintage motifs or modern design the results can be extraordinary and again – unique!

Finally, there is a wonderful growing interest in going green – even when using paper. Many companies are using papers made from sustainable products such as cotton and bamboo. Inks are often soy based and companies are constantly looking for ways to reduce their impact on the environment.

With so many choices available it is important to work with a stationery consultant who can take the time to find out what you are looking for and to help you achieve a truly beautiful and unique invitation within your budget. Since the invitation sets the tone for the event and remains on your guest’s bulletin board or desk for many weeks, the time put into selecting your perfect invitation is well spent. Most importantly – enjoy the process!
